Its 1975
It was the time of the bass player

All the kids are movin
All the kids are groovin
like the kids are dancing in a classroom
turned into a makeshift disco

One of them in particular
He tries to be cool
but he's wearing the clothes his mama made him
He aint no golden breed
He’s a golden fool

He had to get some money
To buy some funky threads
But the only job available at that
time and at that age as a paperboy

and all you had to do was

Stand on the corner with your arm held high
And everyone out on the streets
Would hear your distant cry

First night on the job
The coin is rolling in
But the other boys are jealous coz they
sees how much our paperboy is
Raking in

And late that fateful evening
An evil plot is laid
To wait until the drop off and
Take all that he has made

He's pickin up the pay
He's made enough money to
buy some New wave clothes and wear them at the
Makeshift disco

its time they all went home
that's when other paperboy smiles and
Punches him in the face
-He just went BAM!

And as his hand went to his nose
And the claret began to flow
A hand unseen inside his pouch
has taken all of his dough

It was gettin closed to midnight
When he finally stumbled home
He couldn’t understand why he’d been
Punched in the face
It didn’t make no sense at all

At least he made good money
And at that thought he stopped
He reached into his leather pouch
Just twenty cents was all they’d left
The penny dropped

He fell into his mothers arms
The tears began to flow
Crying like a baby
The snot ran down his nose
